The existential question - what should I wear?!

What does fashion mean for you and me - this question has been lingering on my mind for quite sometime.

When you see models strutting their style on the ramp for fashion week, you always wonder... wow! Wish I could look so good...wish I could be super skinny like her...sigh!! ;(

Or when you go to the mall, you are always confused - you know you wanna look good, but don't know how to! I don't know how many women have gone through this, but I was definitely one of
them!

Though a lot of trial and error, there are a few simple tips I followed and it worked for me !

Know your body type!!

Well for that you can take the help of the internet:

This is a good website to give you an idea of what to wear for you body type. I found this one quite helpful. Then pick a style that suits your body type.

Well...for now I want to talk about some basic tips you should keep in mind while going shopping with a pear shaped body like mine! If you are curvy and a bit short like me:

- Avoid full length maxi dresses. It will never suit you...go for knee length outfits instead! Could be skirts, dresses, coats etc.
- Monochromatic color schemes work the best.
- Avoid loose fits... they make you look bigger.
- Always go for elongating neck lines like vnecks, sweetheart necks, deep U necks etc - avoid boat necks and round necks.
- Always go for vertical lines, if you like stripes...vertical lines make you look taller.

Fitted dresses preferably with detailing like ruffles, studs, lace trims is a great option...or just add a nice belt! Enhance the narrow part of your waist and flaunt your hour glass figure!

Paneled A-line skirts and knee length straight skirt with fitted shirts, blouses and strapless corset tops are probably the safest and the best styles for people like me.

Accessories are a girl's best friends!
For me, belts are my best friends. Even an ordinary sheath dress can look sassy with a nice belt around the waist, and enhances the smallest part of your body.

Chunky long chains always add spunk to any simple dress!! Aways try and wear the long chains, makes you look taller.

Never go for the matchy matchy look..have fun with your accesories! and mix it up!

Though, keep in mind, thre should be a balance...don't wear heavy chunky jewellery with a heavy dress. A heavy dress should be matched with simple accessories and vise versa...

It's all about the colors you choose!

Summer 2011 color trends are all about bright cheerful hues and shade. This season we shy away from military colors and embrace vivid bright hues. Some of the hottest colors for the season are coral peach and watermelon pink! And of course the Pantone color for 2011 is honeysuckle!! Love this honeysuckle one shoulder dress! Simple detailing and very chic!

Also darker shades of blue like cobalt, teal and electric blue are trendy colors right now. They show off the sun kissed skin beautifully! You can even add hints of blue in your accessories too! Loved Nina Garcia accentuate her plain black sheath dress with a trendy blue necklace!

And whenever I am in a dilemma as to what color to wear, and don't have too much time to pick
one, black & white and greys are my best friends! Just accessorise with something fun!....I've never gone wrong with those!

Well! These are some basic tips...hope this helps!

Above all, if you feel great, you look great! So go ahead flaunt it!
